Datacate To Receive 2018 Sustainable Business Award For Energy Conservation

We’ve done it again! For a second time, Datacate has been selected to receive BERC Sacramento’s Sustainable Business of the Year Award in the category of Energy Conservation! Datacate will be presented with a Resolution by the Sacramento County Board of Supervisors on September 11th. On September 19th, a public Awards Ceremony will be held at Golden 1 Center, during which Datacate will be presented with the award. Refreshments will be served, and there will be socializing and networking before the ceremony. This ceremony is open to the public and you are invited to attend.

Datacate had previously received BERC’s energy award in 2016. Our ongoing efforts to continuously improve operating efficiencies since that time have resulted in various initiatives, most notably our Climate Wizard pilot project, which was undertaking in conjunction with community-owned utility SMUD. Other recently completed projects include implementing path-of-travel lighting throughout our Rancho Cordova campus, installing low-power LED illumination, completely replacing our internal data center power infrastructure with more efficient modern equipment, and more. Proposed future projects include removing unnecessary windows, upgrading emergency standby generators (which will reduce CO2 emissions), and utilizing heat output from the data center to warm workspaces in the colder months.

The Sacramento Business Environmental Resource Center (BERC) is a non-regulatory business retention resource established by the Sacramento County Board of Supervisors in 1993 to provide assistance to business with various regulatory and compliance initiatives. BERC administers the Sacramento Area Sustainable Business Program, which certifies and promotes businesses and other organizations in the region that have adopted environmentally friendly practices, and conserve resources.

Each year, BERC selects a program participant in each category to be awarded Business of the Year status. These awards recognize top environmentally proactive Sacramento area businesses whose work practices demonstrate an outstanding commitment to enhancing sustainability. Prior-year award winners have included such well-known organizations as Sierra Nevada Brewing Co., the Sacramento Kings, Republic Services, and the California Public Employees Retirement System (CalPERS).

The public awards ceremony is free to attend, and includes a green business expo with vendor tables, a continental breakfast, networking opportunities, attendance at the keynote speaker session, and the awards ceremony. Click here to register – we look forward to seeing you at the Awards!
